Business Incubation

At the heart of the Uganda Industrial Research Institute’s aspiration to build Uganda’s industrial capacity is its Business Incubation Program. Incubation has been identified as a powerful process for business enterprise development because it creates a bridge between innovation and commercialization.

Business incubation is the process by which the institute supports start-up businesses in order to build entrepreneurship capability for self-sustenance. This program enhances the chances of success and growth for Uganda’s Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through the provision of:

  1. Physical Space: Entrepreneurs have access to dedicated facilities to establish and grow their enterprises.

  2. Shared Services and Machinery: The program provides access to shared equipment and resources to reduce operational costs and improve efficiency.

  3. Skills Training: Entrepreneurs receive hands-on training to enhance their technical, managerial, and operational skills.

  4. Business Legal Advice: UIRI offers expert legal guidance to help businesses navigate regulatory requirements and protect their interests.

In-House and Virtual Incubation

UIRI supports over 30 incubatees through two incubation models:

In-House Incubation: Enterprises are physically hosted and supported at the institute’s facilities, allowing close mentorship and access to UIRI’s state-of-the-art resources.

Virtual Incubation: Entrepreneurs operating in their communities receive remote support, including technical advice, access to resources, and guidance tailored to their unique needs.
