The Civil Works Division at Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI) is committed to ensuring the functionality, modernization, and sustainability of the institute’s infrastructure. The division plays a pivotal role in maintaining the physical environment of UIRI’s campus and supporting industrial development through innovative construction projects.
Infrastructure Maintenance and Renovation: The division oversees the maintenance of UIRI’s campus infrastructure, including routine upkeep, structural renovations, and improvements to ensure a safe and conducive working environment.
Design and Construction Management: The division is tasked with managing the design and construction of off-site production and processing facilities. This involves feasibility assessments, design planning, and quality assurance during construction.
Supervision of Contractors: Ensuring that construction works carried out by external contractors meet UIRI’s standards of excellence. This includes close monitoring of timelines, budgets, and compliance with specifications.

The Civil Works Division played a significant role in the supervision of the World Bank-funded Uganda Millennium Science Initiative (MSI) project. This initiative involved remodeling the institute’s Engineering Workshops and Microbiology Laboratory, showcasing the division’s capacity to deliver on high-profile projects.
