Ceramics is one of the sections under the Department of Product Development, It specializes in identifying different ceramic raw material sources, collecting samples, processing and characterizing these raw materials to formulate and test different bodies that are suitable for the production of ceramic products.
UIRI’s Chemistry Laboratory is one of the country’s best equipped laboratories providing unrivalled testing facilities to food scientists, researchers, exporters, manufacturers, pharmacists, and the general public.
UIRI’s handmade paper section utilizes the otherwise long wasted agricultural fibers like banana stems, pineapple crowns, cotton rags, sisal, bagasse, papyrus, wheat straw, and waste paper to mention but a few to make handmade paper.
UIRI’s Microbiology Laboratory is a traditional unit that was established to assist in product development and the provision of microbiological analytical services. As such, it is designed to ensure in-built quality in the products and processes and to demonstrate compliance to national and international quality requirements and standards. The Section also provides analytical services to industry for similar reasons.
The laboratory undertakes applied research to develop value-added products and affordable technologies that local entrepreneurs can optimally use to develop high-quality food products.
