The Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI) participated in the 4th Annual National Labour Convention & Expo 2026, held from 15th to 16th April at the Serena Hotel, Kampala. The two-day event brought together government, employers, workers, development partners, and the private sector to dialogue on labour, employment, and industrial growth under the theme of promoting decent work and inclusive development.
High-Level Engagement at UIRI Stall
UIRI was honoured to host distinguished guests, including the Vice President, H.E Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, and the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa. Both leaders inspected the UIRI exhibition stall and engaged directly with the team on how UIRI’s research, skills training, and business incubation services are creating sustainable and decent work opportunities for Uganda’s youth. The discussions highlighted UIRI’s contribution to value addition, technology transfer, and enterprise development as key drivers of employment and industrialisation.
Connecting with Stakeholders
Throughout the event, our team engaged government officials, employers, workers’ representatives, academia, and innovators, showcasing prototypes, products from incubated enterprises, and training programs that bridge the skills gap. The UIRI team emphasised the Institute’s role in translating research into jobs — equipping young Ugandans with practical skills, supporting startups, and promoting import substitution through locally made products.
Commitment to Decent Work
UIRI’s participation reaffirmed its alignment with national and global development goals on employment creation and inclusive industrial growth. By linking science, technology, and innovation to the labour market, UIRI continues to be a catalyst for dignified and sustainable livelihoods.
We thank the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development and all partners for organising the Convention and remains committed to collaborating with all stakeholders to build a skilled, productive, and competitive workforce for Uganda.
