Ceramics is one of the sections under the Department of Product Development. It specializes in identifying ceramic raw material sources, collecting samples, processing and characterizing these raw materials, and formulating and testing different bodies suitable for ceramic product production.
Chemistry and Analytical Labs
UIRI's Chemistry Laboratory is one of the country's best equipped laboratories, providing testing facilities to food scientists, researchers, exporters, manufacturers, pharmacists and the general public.
Hand Made Paper
UIRI's Handmade Paper section utilizes agricultural fibres that would otherwise be wasted, including banana stems, pineapple crowns, cotton rags, sisal, bagasse, papyrus, wheat straw and waste paper, to produce handmade paper.
Microbiology and Biotech Labs
UIRI's Microbiology Laboratory was established to assist in product development and the provision of microbiological analytical services. It is designed to ensure in-built quality in products and processes, demonstrate compliance with national and international quality requirements and standards, and provide analytical services to industry.
Agro Production
The laboratory undertakes applied research to develop value-added products and affordable technologies that local entrepreneurs can use to develop high-quality food products.
