Value addition for fruits and vegetables

The Fruits and Vegetables Technology Department is one of the model areas under UIRI's Directorate of Production Systems.

The department was set up to promote industrialization through value addition to fruits and vegetables, improvement of indigenous fruits and vegetable technologies, skills development, business incubation, government value-addition project implementation and SME outreach services.

The department works in collaboration with laboratories at the Institute to ensure the production of safe, quality products that are fit for human consumption and meet consumer expectations.

The section provides community outreach services to farmers, groups and associations in different parts of Uganda to help them start value-addition business operations.

Through this outreach, the section supports the growth of small cottage industries across the country.
