Section profile
The Fruits and Vegetables Technology Department is one of the model areas under UIRI's Directorate of Production Systems.
The department was set up to promote industrialization through value addition to fruits and vegetables, improvement of indigenous fruits and vegetable technologies, skills development, business incubation, government value-addition project implementation and SME outreach services.
Quality support
The department works in collaboration with laboratories at the Institute to ensure the production of safe, quality products that are fit for human consumption and meet consumer expectations.
Audience
The section offers services to a wide range of clients and stakeholders involved in agro-processing, enterprise development and industrialization.
It focuses on empowering the public, especially prospective entrepreneurs, with practical knowledge, essential information, modern technology exposure and hands-on skills that support economic transformation.
Core services
The section provides practical services that help enterprises build capability in fruit and vegetable processing, product quality and market readiness.
Outreach
The section provides community outreach services to farmers, groups and associations in different parts of Uganda to help them start value-addition business operations.
Through this outreach, the section supports the growth of small cottage industries across the country.

The section also provides technical and enterprise support services for fruit and vegetable processing initiatives.
