Division profile

Infrastructure that supports innovation, production and training

The Civil Works Division at Uganda Industrial Research Institute is committed to ensuring the functionality, modernization and sustainability of the Institute's infrastructure.

The division maintains the physical environment of UIRI's campus and supports industrial development through innovative construction projects.

Responsibilities

Maintenance, design and construction management

Civil Works oversees maintenance of UIRI's campus infrastructure, including routine upkeep, structural renovations and improvements that help provide a safe and conducive working environment.

The division manages the design and construction of off-site production and processing facilities. This includes feasibility assessments, design planning and quality assurance during construction.

It also supervises external contractors to ensure construction works meet UIRI's standards, including close monitoring of timelines, budgets and compliance with specifications.

Special contribution

Uganda Millennium Science Initiative supervision

The division played a significant role in supervising the World Bank-funded Uganda Millennium Science Initiative project.

The initiative involved remodeling the Institute's Engineering Workshops and Microbiology Laboratory, demonstrating the division's capacity to deliver high-profile institutional projects.
